FALLING FLYING reimagines the skatepark as a space between impact and progression. Installed in the lobby of Soho House Berlin during Gallery Weekend, the work takes something usually built for movement and places it into stillness.
Everything is reduced to black. What normally feels fast and alive becomes quiet and still for a moment. Broken skateboards are present throughout the space, not as signs of failure, but as traces of trying again and again. Each mark points to repetition, risk and the process behind getting better.
Above it all, a billboard carries the phrase “Today was a good day”. It sits in contrast to the rest of the installation, shifting between lightness and reflection, between holding on and letting go.
FALLING - FLYING looks at skateboarding as something that is never linear. You fall, you try again, you move forward. Failure is not an end point, but part of how things happen. The work sits in that space where control and loss of control meet, somewhere between falling and flying.SOHO HOUSE BERLIN X EFKAN&OEMER
